History

Charles Roland (C.R.) Daniel, a farmer, school teacher and businessman from Missouri, with his wife, Maurine, made his way to Southern Alberta’s miles of rolling prairies and ventured into a land purchase partnership and many other diversified operations. His prize operation was the purchase of about 2000 acres of land north of the Gaol, near Lethbridge, AB, where they built the three storey colonial mansion, reminiscent of the deep South from where his roots came. This unique landmark home, a pre-fabricated house, was ordered from a lumberman’s catalogue, each piece numbered and shipped ready for assembly. Mr. Daniel built up and ran a dairy farm on this property which he affectionately called, ‘Norland’. Today the property includes 10 beautifully landscaped acres, and the majestic historic Mansion, called, ‘The Norland’.
